History

Villa Stormhälla and the island of Stora Tallholmen hold a fascinating history, deeply intertwined with Finland’s remarkable past, the heritage of the city of Hanko, and the life of C.G.E. Mannerheim, the former President and Marshal of Finland.

President Marshal Mannerheim was the owner the island from 1920 to 1931. During this time, Mannerheim spent his summers at Villa Stormhälla (“Storm Cliff”), following his childhood tradition of summering in a villa estate within the Hanko Spa Park.

Who was Marshal Mannerheim?

Mannerheim’s villa was destroyed during the Soviet occupation of Hanko 1940-41, and only the foundation of the house remained.

In 2009, Stora Tallholmen was acquired by the family company Oy Stormhälla Ab. The new Villa Stormhälla now stands proudly in the same location as a tribute to the legacy of Marshal Mannerheim.

Designed by architect Joanna Maury of JOARC Architects, the villa was completed in 2020, highlighing timeless elegance and ultimate comfort. Within Villa Stormhälla’s interior, some elements serve to illuminate the remarkable history and enduring legacy of Stora Tallholmen’s esteemed former owner and his significance for generations to come.
